  Relate relationship

  and couple counselling

This is a service for people who are worried about their relationship and want to do something about it. You don’t have to be married to take advantage of our service and you certainly don’t have to come as a couple. In fact, its much better for you to come by yourself than to have no help at all. The best time to come is before things have reached a crisis point, but whatever stage your difficulties have reached, our counsellors will be able to offer you help and support.

Please remember that Relate counselling can also be a great source of help and support for individuals who are going through the painful and lonely process of separation or divorce.

What is Relationship Counselling?

Counselling has become a popular form of help in recent years, but, despite this, many people have the wrong idea about what it is and what it can do.

At RPKC, we think that the purpose of counselling is to achieve real and positive changes in our clients’ lives and relationships.

At the beginning of a relationship counselling programme, clients are asked to talk about the difficulties they face and how they feel about them. At this stage a good counsellor will listen sympathetically and impartially and make sure that both partners have a chance to express their feelings and points of view.
Talking through the issues in this way is essential, and may even make clients feel a lot better, but it is actually only a small part of the counselling process. In fact, the real purpose of all this careful listening and exploring is to help clients gain a clear understanding of what is going wrong in their relationship.
This understanding is vital because it is only when you know exactly how and why things have gone wrong that you can make sensible and realistic decisions about how to make them better.

That sounds a bit like common sense: but in reality, making real changes in your relationship can be very difficult and sometimes painful, especially if things have been going steadily wrong for a number of years.

The good news is that if clients have a genuine commitment to change and the courage to make that change happen, counselling can make a huge improvement to the quality of their lives and relationships. But for this to happen, they also need the right kind of counsellor with the right kind of training.

Our counsellors at RPKC have a vast experience of helping people with the kind of relationship difficulties that can lead to separation or divorce. They are especially skilled at working with couples and individuals who are trying to make real changes in their lives and relationships. This means that if you arrange to see one of our counsellors, you can be sure of getting a properly trained counsellor whose work is professional, safe and appropriately supervised.

Costs

Although RPKC is a registered charity and isn’t in the business of making profits for shareholders, we still have to cover our costs if we are to survive.  In practice this means that we sometimes have to ask clients to pay towards the cost of their counselling and therapy.   For details about our costs and charges please click here
